Shake-ups in Narnia

Any Chronicles of Narnia fans in the house? But, of course! Have you been wondering what’s going on with the upcoming movie The Voyage of the Dawn Treader?

First of all, Disney “jumped ship” around Christmas Eve. This may have had something to do with Prince Caspian‘s not making the money they expected. Walden’s search for a new partner led them to Fox, which will officially co-produce the movie.

Dawn Treader has had a rough time getting out to sea. The movie was once due to debut in two months (May 7) then was moved to May 7, 2010—now the latest word is December 10, 2010. Needless to say, filming has been pushed back, too, from as early as January 2008 (for the May 2009 deadline) to the recent 2009 date. The location was to be Mexico, but now it looks like it will be Australia.

What about the cast and crew? Well, if you’ve read Prince Caspian (or seen the movie, I guess), you know that Peter and Susan don’t return to Narnia, which means their actors probably won’t either. Edmund and Lucy do, so that means Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley are back. Capsian (Ben Barnes) will also be back (after all, it’s his voyage). And let’s not forget Aslan (Liam Neeson). As far as the crew goes, you can say “bon voyage” to Andrew Adamson. Yep, he’s not directing this one. Cut him some slack—he needs a break. (Hopefully, they can at least coax him back to play Puddleglum in Silver Chair.) Michael Apted will be in charge of Dawn Treader. (As a side note, what’s with directors signing off after two movies in a book-to-film series? Didn’t that happen with Harry Potter?)
